Business Intelligence

Business intelligence today has become a more important.you can get a idea about by this.you can follw yhe links to read more on this topic.

I'm jazzed about – of all things – reporting software. (And yeah, friends say I need to get out of the basement more.) Because at my last company, we used the "market leader" in reporting and business intelligence. It sucked. It was tedious (individually formatted fields?! c'mon) and I kept getting interrupted by coworkers with question after question after question.
Big thanks to Santoshe, my new boss who gave me the power to try out and ultimately choose reporting and document generation software for our company. There are a few things I'm looking for. It has to be able to work with XML reports AND SQL reports. Our data is everywhere, but mainly SQL databases and XML files. We're not about to waste time transferring everything into one data storage format although we try to avoid Excel data and reports.
Our company has a lot of different programmers, so it also has to handle Java reports.net reportsC# reports, visual basic reports, and C++ reports. And it would be great if it could create Python reports, PHP reports and Ruby reports. (Not to sound too greedy, but that's my wish list. We have a cool new programmer who keeps bugging me about ruby on rails reports. Let me find something so I can dump a bunch of this work on someone else.)
I'm in the middle of demoing Windward Reports and so far it's WAY better than what I was used to. They talk about their reporting software and business intelligence and say they can be used for java reports, dotnet reports and csharp reports. In our initial testing it has handled everything we've thrown at it.
It's fast and strong. It didn't take much long to design my first report. (Actually, I asked one of the HR people to design a template – she designed it in about 20 minutes. I just had to tweak the data tags.) And it looks like they're about to launch software that is programming language agnostic. But we haven't explored everything Windward is supposed to be able to do. And don't get me started on Excel reports...
Any experience with Windward's reporting software or business intelligence stuff? Let me know – especially if  you are think it sucks as much as the "rhymes with pistol" software. I don't want the headaches all over again.

Poson

Poson full-moon poya day (Poson Poya Day/Poson Festival) is celebrated the arrival of Buddhism in Sri Lanka in the 3rd century BC, a festival of great historical and religious significance celebrated island-wide by Buddhists. Poson, held on the full moon day of June, commemorates the occasion over 2,000 years ago when Arahat Mahinda, son of Emperor Asoka of India, converted King Devanampiyatissa to Buddhism. The main center of celebration is Mihintale, the ancient monastic complex where the royal missionary monk Mahinda perched the first sermon to the ruling king and at Anuradhapura the ancient capital, to which large crowd of pilgrims converge. Mass religious observances, illuminations pageants are part of the celebrations.

For Buddhists, this hallowed day of Poson is second only to Vesak in terms of importance. Although Poson is celebrated throughout the island, the major ceremonies are to be found in Anuradhapura and Mihintale. Long lines of devotees dressed in white climb the many steps to the top of the Mihintale hill first to the temple, and then to the dagobas that lie adorn the nearby hillocks. In addition, many devotees climb to the very top of the rock, to the spot where Arahat Mahinda delivered his initial discourses.

Poson Poya is celebrated annually with great fervour throughout the island but particularly in Mihinthalaya where Mahinda Thero first put his foot to preach the word of Lord Buddha. This is why Mihinthalaya is called the cradle of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. With the establishment of Bhikku Sasanaya all other elements of a civilized society began to emerge with the art of writing, art, architecture, river civilization, religious rituals in song and dance forms, literature, all with royal patronage.

Many religious activities are organized during this poson period in Sri Lanka such as Sil campaigns,Bodhi Poojas,Dansalas(Freely giving foods, coffee, tea from people ), Poson devotional songs, Poson pandols( thoran) and lanterns. Lot of Poson pandols and Poson Lanterns are making Anuradhapura in Sri Lanka.

In Poson many temples are filled with Atasil devotees and pilgrims all over Sri Lanka to mark this great event. The devout, clad in pure white with no make-up or jewelry, make their way to the temple,to spend the next twenty four hours in quiet contemplation. While the rest of the village, gather at the temple grounds after sunset to participate in lesser religious activities, like reading of holy books, or listen to the saffron clad monk relate ancient stories from Lord Buddha's previous lives. During the Poson Festival, the selling of alcohol and flesh is usually prohibited, with abattoirs also being closed.

A festival of great piety and sanctity which focuses on the virtual of compassion to all living creature,it is also one of much colour and gaiety, with street, homes and public places decorated with beautiful and finely decorated hand-made paper lanterns small and big and glittering with illuminations, pandals depicting the different occurrences in the life of the Buddha or his previous births.

Wesak Festival 2600 Sambudda Jayanthi

Sri Lanka celebrates Vesak - a thrice-blessed day for Buddhists as it commemorates the birth of Buddha, his attaining Enlightenment and his passing away into Nirvana.
This is a day spent in reflective prayer while lanterns made from bamboo frames and covered in coloured paper are hung inside every home and incredible illuminated displays decorate the streets. Devoted Buddhists pray in temples from dawn until dusk, then take part in processions as the sun sets, visiting the temples again in the evening to hear monks read stories from the Buddhist texts.
Stalls on the roadside distribute free refreshments to passers-by and there are some fantastic mime and street theatre performances, staged on tall platforms throughout the cities and towns near the temples.
Vesak is celebrated on the day of the full moon in May. It is the most hallowed of Buddhist festivals, almost a Christmas, Easier and Whitsun rolled into one as it commemorates the birth of the Buddha, his enlightenment and his death.

Online Jobs in Sri Lanka

I have being writing about how to
make money online in Sri Lankafor quite a while now and my preferred method has being creating niche websites and adding affiliate links and adding Adsense in those blogs. But everyone doesn't like blogging, even I don't like the necessary but tedious tasks like upgrading software, managing hosting etc. In this article I will take a look at few other online jobs in Sri Lanka which is much more attractive to normal internet surfers. Although I'm listing down few more online jobs I still believe that if you are looking to generate a long term passive income online then blogging and affiliate marketing is the best option. Internet is a place of countless opportunities and although opportunities for Sri Lankans are limited because of reasons like limited Internet crowd,Paypal send onlythere are still quite a few Internet jobs for Sri Lankans.

Doing Freelance work

A very attractive option especially for university students. When it comes to freelance work in Sri Lanka it is mostly about designing websites. But if you are good at other programming languages then there are lots of opportunities available for you via the Internet. Check out my article about
freelance work in Sri Lanka and where to find freelance jobsto learn about websites that offer freelance work outside Sri Lanka. Make sure you follow the steps about creating a good profile with proper descriptions etc before bidding for optimum chance of getting jobs.

Data Entry work

For people who don't have the programming skills and designing skills but who have some free time to earn some money then data entry work might be a good choice for you. Keep in mind though that just because you have a Internet connection and some free time you cant do data entry jobs. You have to have some basic English knowledge, satisfactory typing speed and the ability to deliver on time. Most data entry work advertise themselves claiming you can do your work at your leisure but this is not always the case, once you accept a job you have to deliver withing a certain time period. Check out my article aboutData entry work and where to find free data entry jobs in Sri Lanka.

FOREX trading

One of the most profitable methods to make money online but can lead to significant financial losses if done without proper knowledge and experience. This isn't somethings you can learn in a day and start doing straightaway. More than the computer knowledge what you need here is sound understanding of how the currency markets and financial markets work. If you are willing to invest some time to learn the methods this could be a great income source for you. If you are still interested then check out
FOREX trading in Sri Lanka.Using Ebay To Earn Extra Money
When it comes to earning additional cash the first thing that ever came into my mind was Ebay. So how you make money with ebay is pretty darn simple. To sum it up in 13 words: Ebay is an online marketplace where you can buy and sell products online. You can earn money with ebay by just selling off items in your house that are no longer in use. Not only can you make additional income but you might as well pull in your entire income with this way.
Using Paid To Click Websites To Earn Extra Money
Though I do not recommend to rely on this as a permanent or reliable source of extra wealth but the only reason I’m recommending it now is because it is really easy. You can read my review about using it to making money on the internet. You can also read reviews about bux.to andclixsense which are two good recommended paid to click websites.
Providing Easy Services To Earn Extra Money
There is a whole list of services you could provide to people but listed below are the most easiest and the highest returns compared to the work you put into it:
1.    Make Money Writing: If you’re a good writer you can write then you can easily pull in a few hundred dollars a month. You can usually make up to $5 per article which is usually 500+ words and unique. You can contact webmasters on forums to let them know about your services.
2.    Acquiring Tedious Jobs: Many times I’ve seen threads in forums put up by webmasters offering money to people for doing some tedious jobs. It might include copy/pasting stuff or editing loads of documents. There are mostly some of these jobs available in the forums and you can check them out by visiting famous forums like digital point.
3.    Blog Commenting: As we webmasters know, blog commenting can be quite useful in a website’s growth and hence many webmasters also look for ways to outsource this. You can usually put up a thread telling about your services and charge fees like $10 for 20 comments or similar. It shouldn’t be hard to get in some extra 30 dollars a month.
4.    Promotion Services: Recently after the use of twitter grew I’ve been seeing many people trying to make profits. This is among the best ways to make extra money. Example: Andrew has a twitter profile has around 5000 followers all targeted in the sports niche and he is active and so is his following. Andrew goes to a forum and offers a 1 line review plus link to a website in the sports niche for $50. Andrew gets a couple of requests a month and makes around $500 per month easily.
5.    Contest Participating: You might want to check in for contests which are always running around the web. Recently, I saw one for $500 and an iPod Nano. Which is not a bad thing at all if you see the easy thing you have to do to be entered as a participant.
The list goes on and in fact I have way more than just those listed. But I tried to keep the list open to anyone. It can help anyone make some spare money for saving for a rainy day. I also tried to make sure it did not involve any costs and most importantly was extremely easy to apply and get it working. If you have any more really easy ways to create an additional stream of income then let me know and if it’s good enough you might get credit for it.
Take initiative on the list and I will not be surprised if you came back after a few months telling me that you’re making an extra $500 per month. This may prove to be even more beneficial to those people who keep checking their Adsense accounts every hour just to find that they earned $0.01 today. Now you’ve learned how to make extra money, it’s time to act. Get a hold of yourself as well as this list and get going! :-P

Anuradapura

205 km from Colombo is Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka's first capital founded about the 4th century
BC. According to the Mahavansa, the Sinhala Buddhist chronicle, the city was a model of planning.
Precincts were set aside for huntsmen and scavengers and even heretics and foreigners. There were
hostels and hospitals, separate cemeteries for high and low castes. A water supply was assured by
the construction of reservoirs.
View of Giant Stupas or Dagobas at Anuradhapura Anuradhapura was to continue for six hundred
years as the national capital. But internecine struggles for the royal succession grew, and it became
more and more vulnerable to the pressures of South Indian political expansion. The city was finally
abandoned and the capital withdrawn to more secluded areas.
But the monuments of Anuradhapura's heyday survive, surrounded by the solemn umbrage of trees,
scions of an ancient parklan

The Ruvanweli Seya Dagoba    Considered the greatest dagoba of Anuradhapura. With its 55 meters (180 feet) in height and
snowy white colour, it can be quite a hurt to the eyes in the direct sunlight. Explore the terrace
around it. You will also be impressed by the magnificent Elephant Wall which carries the terrace
and the dagoba.

The Samadhi Buddha    Don't miss the Samadhi Buddha ! It's one of the best executed Buddha statues in the country,
dating back to the 4th Century. Interesting detail is that when looked at from the left, the Buddha
appears to be smiling, but not from the right

The Kuttam Pokuna    Translated : the 'Twin Ponds'. The most beautiful ancient pools of Anuradhapura, and possibly of
the country.

Carlton Super Cross

Carlton Super Cross

When the day was finally upon us to witness the much acclaimed Carlton Super Cross 2010 everyone was caught with a feeling of pure excitement. The Motor Racing Association (MRA) together with the Organization of Aspiring Youth (Tharuniyata Hetak) without doubt delivered the goods.

The day commenced with the youngsters below the age of 10 years taking their 50cc machines on to the track. Akalanka senadeera went on to win the race without much competition delivered by his fellow riders. The highlights of the motor cycle events were found in every ones favourite event- Motor Cycles up to 250cc. the question on every ones mind was whether Lanka’s golden boy Gayan Sandaruwan could shake off the competition that was to come from Indian rider C S Santhosh or whether he would crumple under preasure. When the start was given Santhosh was out of the start line leaving the other riders to follow. Sandaruwan nevertheless was at his tail attempting to take advantage of any possible opportunity Santhosh may give. And the opportunity came in the early laps of the race when Santhosh became the victim of a nasty fall. With Santhosh bowing down from the first race Sandaruwan, follwed by Nuwan Dassanayake and Tuan Ossen went on to take their places on the podium. In their second race Sandaruwan led the race amongst a cheering crowd. Santhosh seemed to have technical difficulties and was thus unable to deliver the competition every one hoped for. Yet again Sandaruwan went on to win the race with TVS team rider Santhosh settling down for second and Tuan Ossen taking third. In the Open event for bikes it was Santhosh who led the race at the beginning but Sandaruwan over took him and maintained his position till he took the chequered flag for the third time for the day. Other motor cycle events which drew our attention was the under 16 event. Shehan Adikari who was expected to do well had to settle for a third place after he crashed out and returned to the race.

In the car events there was an equally phenomenal performance given. It was Passindu Peiris who stole the lime light with his exceptional performances. With three wins under his belt every one felt that the last SL-GT event would be comfortably won by him but it was not to be. Going in to the early laps of the race Peiris persuing Aravinda Premadasa, turned completely over forcing him to pull out of the race. The vehicle although damaged Peiris walked away unscathed. Among the other memorable moments were Upulwan Seresinghe’s and Nishan Wasalathanthri’s skillful handling of their machines in the SLH cars 1600cc event. But one of the biggest moments came from the Nissan March event where Rohitha Rajapakse had pole position at the start grid. It was a proud moment for every one as we realized that our President His Excellency Mahinda Rajapakse’s support for the sport was paramount as his son Namal Rajapakse being the driving force behind the success of this sports weekend while his talented son Rohitha Rajapakse competed in the motor racing event. It displayed the vision of wanting to be part of the people and wanting to uplift sports in rural areas.

With trophies and crash prizes awarded for the winners the Carlton Super cross was successfully concluded with a promise to return next year with more thrills and spills

Beaches

West Coast Beach Resorts
The West Coast stretches northwards from Mt. Lavinia a southern suburb of Colombo. Mt. Lavinia and Negombo are the best developed beach resorts in this region. Isolated hotels have sprung up in most places along the western coastal stretch.

Mt. Lavinia

11 kilometers south of from Colombo along the road to Galle is the beach resort of Mt. Lavinia. The sea is safe for bathing and is a popular bathing spot with clean sandy beaches. The name Lavinia reminds of a secret love affair between a British Governor and a local damsel who used to meet at the holiday house of the Governor which stood on the spot where the Mt. Lavinia Hotel is located.

                Negombo
The major beach resort in the West Coast is Negombo. The wide sandy beaches and the safe sea attract thousands of visitors to Negombo, a traditional fishing town. Several hotels ranging from luxury hotels to small motels, guest houses and restaurants have come up along the coastal stretch called Lewis Place. The fish market is worth visiting where busy trading of a variety of fish including prawns, crabs and seer takes place wide in the mornings when the fishing crafts return to the shore with their catch. The most popular fishing craft is the outrigger canoe called oruwa dug out from a huge log and is seen in large numbers in the Negombo lagoon.

South Coast Beach Resorts
The southern coastal belt is the most popular among the tourists and comes to life mainly from October through April when the monsoon moves north east and the sea becomes calm with blue skies. It is an ideal place to spend the Winter vacation fully made use of by the European tourists. The main beach resorts are at Beruwala, Bentota and Hikkaduwa having several beach hotels with their exclusive beachfronts. Another interesting stretch of beach in the south is Unawatuna.

        Beruwala
An hour's drive from Colombo along the south coast will take the visitor to Beruwala that marks the beginning of the South Coast Beach Resort. Several tourist hotels of "Star" grade provide comfortable accommodation and meals. Beruwala is considered to be the first Muslim settlement in the Island established by the Arab traders as far back as the 8th century. There is a famous Muslim mosque at the beachhead close to which is a light house one of several erected along the Sri Lankan.

        Bentota

Four kilometers to the south of Beruwala is the Bentota National Tourist Resort, a romantic rendezvous of river and sea. It is a planned resort with four-star class hotels, a Railway Station, Post Office, Bank, Shopping Arcade, a Tourist Information Centre, and an abundance of water based recreational activities.

          Hikkaduwa
Hikkaduwa (99 km. from Colombo) is the place for underwater delights where there is a marine sanctuary abundant with rare corals and tropical fish. The underwater world of colourful corals and beautiful shoals of fish can be explored either by snorkeling or taking a ride in a glass bottom boat.

         Unawatuna

Four kilometers south of Galle is Unawatuna (120 km. from Colombo), a beautiful stretch of beach in the south safe for bathing. Rumasssala, a rocky outcrop projecting into the sea at Unawatuna is connected with the legendary Ramayana as a piece of mountain fallen from the portion of Himalaya brought to Lanka by Hanuman who went in search of a medicinal herb to treat Laxamana, Rama’s brother wounded in battle.

The road leading south from Colombo passes through the Southern Beach Resorts winding its way through stretches of coconut land. An alert visitor will spot a man high up in the air crossing from tree to tree on two ropes tied tightly to the trees like a tight rope walker in a circus. He is a ‘toddy tapper’ getting about his daily chores tapping the sap off the tender inflorescence of the coconut trees which is used to distill Sri Lankan Arrack and other alcoholic beverages.
A half hour's drive from Bentota is Ambalangoda, the home of "mask making" in Sri Lanka. Colourful masks worn during traditional dance performances are carved out of soft wood and brightly painted.
Galle the southern capital (116 km. from Colombo) was the seaport of Sri Lanka before the Colombo Port was developed. Its main attraction is the Fort that has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The Fort was built by the Portuguese in 1619 and subsequently expanded and developed by the Dutch and the British the one time colonial masters of the Island. What now remains is mostly the work of the Dutch and the British.
At Kudawella (189 km. from Colombo) is a blowhole, rare geological formation on the rocky beach throwing huge columns of water high up into the air with a loud noise like a natural spout. This noise has given the village its name Hoommane. Huge ocean waves breaking on the rocks are thrown up through an opening in the rock causing this wonderful sight that should not be missed by anyone going along the southern coastal road.

East Coast Beach Resorts
From April to October, the East Coast comes to life. It is one of the best stretches of beach in Sri Lanka. The Eastern beaches stretch for over 300 kilometers along which tourist resorts have developed in Nilaveli, 16 km. from Trincomalee and Kalkudah, 32 km. north of Batticaloa.

             Trincomalee
Horatio Nelson, the British admiral of the 18th century had on arriving at the Trincomalee harbour described it as the finest harbour in the world. It is a beautiful natural harbour worthy of that description and had been in use from the days of the early Sinhala kings. The old Portuguese/Dutch Fort reminiscent of the colonial rule of the Island has the year 1676 inscribed above its entrance by the Dutch. It was subsequently named Ford Frederick by the British.

              Nilaveli
Nilaveli is a prime beach resort in the East Coast. It is ideally suited for sun bathing, sea bathing and diving. A few meters off shore is a small rocky island good for snorkeling.

             Kalkudah & Passekudah

These are very fine beaches in the East Coast. Kalkudah Bay is a 2 km. long wide stretch of beach well protected from the monsoon by the off shore reef. Passekudah Bay is another wide beach 4 km. long just south of Kalkudah. The combined area of Passekudah and Kalkudah was declared a National Holiday Resort in 1973. This is an ideal stretch for bathing, windsurfing and water skiing.

             Batticaloa
Batticaloa town in the East Coast like most other coastal townships was under Portuguese and Dutch rule. A Dutch Fort stands close to the Batticaloa lagoon. The most famous attraction of Batticaloa is its ‘Singing Fish’. On full moon nights a faint but distinct musical sound rises from the lagoon waters. This is attributed to a noise emanated by a kind of fish found in the lagoon.
